SpendAi is a procurement intelligence startup which uses AI to organize procurement data for downstream consumption of AI agents. Our product turns fragmented procurement data into trusted procurement intelligence, giving our customers the clarity to identify opportunities, execute confidently, and sustain value over time.

What this team works on

Procurement data is always messy; our product engineering team at SpendAi is extremely focused on making complicated data organized and easily accessible for our end users and the AI agents procurement teams are increasingly using. Organizing and presenting this data is solved by a combination of engineering work streams including but not limited to...

• Building AI agents for data ingestion
• Designing data models which make sense for the procurement industry
• Maintaining high performance data pipelines across a variety of data systems
• Exposing analytic and transactional data through secure APIs and MCP servers
• Building UIs which help simply the complicated data our customers work with
• Connecting downstream agents for data analysis

Who you are

We look for engineers who demonstrate the following traits:

• Desire to simplify inherently complicated data and software: You believe that data and software is fundamentally complicated but believe the joy in our jobs is making it simple for our customers.
• Extreme care for the craft of engineering: You are expected to hate when our product has issues, and more importantly, fix them without someone asking you to.
• Engineer AI systems for development: Writing code with claude code, codex, cursor, etc. is a given; you can create self-sustaining agentic systems (with internal or external tools) to help force-multiply our engineering practice.
• Process Oriented: You believe our company will succeed because of our ability to consistently keep on top of mounting work by abstracting our engineering processes relentlessly. Furthermore, you design and live these processes.
• Self Starter: You have a keen business sense to understand where your time is best spent and you advocate for your time to be spent doing that with the rest of the team.
• Empathetic: You love working on a team because of the human connection with everyone at SpendAi.

Experience

Some things we like to see in applications:

• Demonstrated ownership of complicated software systems in production
• Ability to move across the stack and design systems which touch many different tools
• Experience with LLM usage in production
• Modern technology stack experience similar or equivalent to what we use: AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Typescript, FastAPI, FastMCP, ORMs, Postgres, Snowflake, etc.
• An eye for beautiful designs where the underlying data is complicated and business facing
• Created and maintained high performance data pipelines in OLAP and OLTP settings
• Startup, or net-new team, experience designing and building engineering systems from 0 to 1

People who fit the above experience typically have 3 or more years of professional work experience, but we will hire at any level of experience if you clearly are brilliant and self sufficient.

Employees at SpendAi have access to high quality benefits including paid time off, health, dental, 401k accounts and contributions, and optical insurance, and equity stakes in SpendAi. The base pay range for this role ranges from $100,000 to $250,000.

This is an in-person role in Seattle Washington. Applicants must have a permanent work authorization in the United States.
